Our mission is to provide a handcrafted, local, organic probiotic soda option for the whole family. We strive to source as many ingredients locally and/or organic as possible. We have teamed up with local farmers to create supportive relationships that promote local poly culture farming and plant biodiversity within the West Coast. We support American businesses, source our bottles from American glass distributors and screen our bottles locally in Northern California.
The founder of The Water Kefir People, Crystal Bossola, graduated with a degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She has 15 years experience in the food industry and after graduating in 2012, she collaborated with a Naturopathic Physician specializing in gut healing. Crystal began brewing water kefir on the North Shore of Oahu and selling it at the local Country Market across the street from the infamous surf break, Pipeline. She made the choice to brew because there were limited dairy-free probiotic options within the local community.
In the summer of 2014 at Turtle Bay Resort Ocean Fest, co-founder Jacinda Swan was introduced to this unique and delicious water kefir. An instant fan, she began sharing the product with her family regularly. After curing a chronic infection, her belief in water kefir created a desire to invest in the product and together Crystal and Jacinda created The Water Kefir People brand.
Currently The Water Kefir People brew in Bend, Oregon. As the demand for water kefir grows, we continue to seek out new ways to manufacture and distribute our healthy beverage across the West Coast and beyond.
